HDR

I’ve been experimenting with HDR photography a bit recently, some people despise this method and say its not true photography. I personally believe its just making the most of whats available. sure they dont always look like natural photographs, but the intense detail and surrealistic lighting they provide can make up for some stunning images that you simply could not produce from a single exposure. HDR opens up even more photographic possibilities and lets you be able to capture scenes like this sunset below like never before.

“we only come out in the dark”

Punters to David Walsh’s MONA opening weren’t only among the first in the world to witness the amazing new $100 million dollar+ Museum of Old and New Art. They also got a chance to see a truly unique and original live performance by Hobart DJ/VJ (thats a Video DJ) duo ACUMEN and 4 of Tasmania’s most talented street artists Topsk, Aedan Howlett, Odius and Sdawg titled: Sea Spray.

Merging mesmerising and hypnotic digital video animations by Aled Garlic with live spray painting to smooth beats and breaks coming from the decks of DJ Dameza. Sea Spray revealed the process and difficulty of illegal street art to a large number of outsiders, most of whom have never had a chance to see a creative process like this before, only for the end result to be rapidly white washed before a chance to see the entire completed work was made… which in my eyes is a statement to the public about how much amazing artwork available to for all to see is constantly erased due to law, ignorance and bureaucracy.

These are a select few of the many photos I shot with Jonny Scholes at the performance. I am very grateful to have such a powerful camera that allows me to shoot with a sharp shutter speed in very low and ever-changing light.

If you ever get a chance to see ACUMEN, DO IT! hopefully the boys have some more performances lined up for the future but until then, you’ll have to settle for some photos.

Thanks, Martie.
